And the angel said to them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good news of great joy, which shall be to all people… a Savior has been born to you… Luke 2:10-11
For the shepherds, it must have been quite a shock when the angels appeared. They were just ordinary working men, feeling comfortable and confident with the world around them. They expected each day to be like the ones past. But this night threw them off balance. Sure, they had heard all their lives that a Messiah was coming, but assumed it was in the distant future. They had no idea God had reached a “fullness of time” moment and would shift everything to another level. In an instant, they had to make a choice—do we believe this really happened, or ignore it as a crazy dream and go back to what we’ve always known?
This year, 2020, has thrown us off balance. Having the lifestyle we’ve always known interrupted, our churches closed, our denomination and nation in turmoil has been very unsettling. Are we in another “fullness of time” juncture? With all that is shaking around us, the angel’s words are still reaching out. We, too, have a choice—will we make the world’s news our source, or the news of the angel?
I hope you choose JOY!
