Scriptural, Orthodox, Positive, Faithful
We at the Holston chapter of the WCA are sending the following message on behalf of Rick Van Giesen, the transitional benefits officer for the Global Methodist Church. This information should be helpful for pastors and churches moving to the GMC. The attachments he references are available as part of this page. If you have any questions, contact Rick.
If you have not already done so, please give a look at the summaries of the GMC benefits on the GMC FAQ website. You’ll see brochures that you can download, plan descriptions and the health insurance rates.
Start about six questions down from the top.
Wespath has produced a very informative chart about the pension ramifications of withdrawal from the UMC. Click here for the chart.
Active pastors do not need to do anything to transfer their pension accounts from UMC to GMC. Wespath will do that automatically when they are informed that a GMC pastor has been appointed to a GMC church.
For pastors who have already retired. No account transfer is necessary.
In addition, enrollment in the “Covenant Life Options” (disability and life insurance) is also automatically done at Wespath. This plan is a replacement for CPP for active pastors, but it is less expensive.
I have attached the enrollment forms for the GMC pension and health insurance plans, along with the instructions. Please complete them and email them back to me ASAP.
If you have further questions, feel free to drop me an email and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
All the best on this amazing journey!
